Diesel Powered Electrical Generation Instructor – Williamson County

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Dickson is accepting applications for a full-time Associate
Instructor position in the new Diesel Powered Electrical Generation program in Williamson County. This is a
partially grant-funded position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 Minimum of Technical Diploma in instructional area or equivalent higher education training with
credentials in diesel technology, power generation or industrial electrical technology or a closely
related field. Associate Degree preferred. A comparable combination of education and directly
related work experience may be considered.
 Minimum three (3) years of experience in the diesel-powered electrical generation field, diesel
mechanics or residential/industrial electrical field within the last five (5) years.
 Electrical Generating Systems Technician certification preferred or the ability to become certified
within 12 months.
 Must possess computer skills.
 Strong hands-on technical background in field of instruction.
 Must possess a high degree of knowledge in the following areas: diesel engine systems, electrical
troubleshooting and AC power fundamentals.
SKILLS
 Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and
interact with high school students.
 Must show evidence of good character, mature attitude and stable personality.
 Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and
program accreditation(s).
 Prior teaching or evidence of ability to teach students a plus.
 Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students,
faculty, staff, the general public and business/industry representatives.
GENERAL DUTIES: The Diesel Powered Electrical Generation Associate Instructor is responsible for
providing in-person individualized theory and hands-on instruction to high school students to prepare them
for employment as commercial diesel-powered generator technicians. Areas of instruction include AC, DC
and analog electronics; soldering techniques; safety; diesel engine repair and maintenance; diesel powerplant
troubleshooting, etc. The Associate Instructor must monitor, grade and evaluate individual student progress;
maintain student records in the college’s student records management software; maintain appropriate
documentation; submit timely reports; and assist in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates.
The Associate Instructor must maintain good public relations with business and industry, participate in
advisory committee meetings and cooperate with outside agencies. Some travel may be required. This
position is full-time and reports to the Vice President of Academics and Compliance. Scheduled work hours
are Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Scheduled class hours are 7:30 a.m.to 10:30 a.m.
and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The position will be based at the Williamson County
Innovation Hub at 106 Claude Yates Drive in Franklin. This is not a remote work position. Anticipated start
date is July 1, 2026.
SALARY: $55,983-$67,181 ($28.71-$34.45 per hour). Commensurate with Tennessee Colleges of Applied
Technology salary guidelines and directly related experience.
